Straight outta Anchorage comes Colin Zimmerman, utility man for the DII Hawaii Hilo Vulcans. The Z-Man has been recruited to play for his hometown Anchorage Bucs in 2010.

Zimmerman was a standout athlete for the Eagles of Anchorage’s West High. As a prep hardball player, Zimmerman was chosen All-District and made the Legion All-Star team twice each. He also participated in the school’s track and football squads.

Not surprising for a baseball player who also ran track, running is Zimmerman’s main threat. At 5’9″ and a lean 165lb he’s got the speedster build, and the Vulcans have used him primarily as a pinch runner during his collegiate career. The sophomore did start one game during the 2010 NCAA season, though, and made the most of it. Zimmerman reached base twice (hitting the ball once, and having the ball hit him in the other) and scored both times. Colin has quick feet, a versatile glove, and the ability to hit from the left side of the plate, all things that will make him a valuable part of the Bucs’ bench in 2010.
