Mat-Su Miners 2012 Draft List

With the MLB draft looming large on June 4th — less than a month away! — it’s time to start getting together the draft lists. I’m fairly confident that the Mat-Su Miners will be the last team to release their roster for the 2012 ABL season, and therefor the last team roster which I will [...]

Looking ahead at 2012

The past two years I have written a sappy New Year’s post full of thank yous and all that jazz, but this year I think I’ll give you all what you come here for and stick with baseball. Let’s look ahead at the 2012 Alaska Baseball League season! I’ll give a brief rundown of where [...]

July 27, 2011 Oilers at Miners Photo Post

Here’s a whole truckload of photos from July 27th’s Oilers at Miners game. As I said in the game report, I had a combination of technical difficulties and running out of room under my ISP’s draconian monthly data cap (yes, that’s right, it’s draconian) preventing me from uploading the batch of photos a week or [...]

Oilers blow out Honkers

The Peninsula Oilers came out with guns blazing today, stomping the Northwest Honkers by a final score of 14-1. The game — which was delayed from Wednesday night until Thursday morning due to rain — was a five-inning mercy-rule victory for the ABL’s representatives at the National Baseball Congress World Series. All five of those [...]

Game Report: 7/26/2011 Oilers at Miners

On Tuesday I made it out to see the Oilers one last time when they came up to play the Miners in Palmer. The Miners ended up taking the game by a score of 5-2. At that time it was an important win for them, and one that must have stung for the Oilers, though [...]

2011 Player Profile: Michael Suiter

Michael Suiter has been touted as Hawaii’s best baseball talent, and has been honored as the only high school player to be invited to the Alaska Baseball League this year. Drafted by Cincinnati in 2011, Suiter had the opportunity enter pro ball as a 37th around pick, but opted instead to continue his education.

Game Report: 7/24/2011 Oilers at Miners

The game last night between the Oilers and the Miners was another one of those where the weather was chilly, but the bats were hot. The teams combined for 12 runs on 16 hits. The weather report said 55F but I don’t believe it. The wind was blowing in from straight-away center which might have [...]

Game Report: 7/22/2011 Fire at Miners + Photos

The Miners have been on the road for a long, long time. I live in Palmer and haven’t had a good enough excuse to go in to Anchorage lately, so you can imagine my excitement that I can finally attend a game here in my own ‘hood. And it couldn’t have been a better day [...]

Game Report: Miners at Fire, 7/5/2011

What I just witnessed was the strangest game of baseball I’ve ever seen in this league, and perhaps in any league, including possibly Little League. Before I start pulling apart this can of worms, I’ll give you the important line: by a score of 3-1, the AIA Fire defeated the Mat-Su Miners…maybe. Now, where the [...]
